Sounds like a great time -- gonna go?

I got a really nifty email yesterday ... a spinning friend of mine is looking for interest in holding a fibre retreat weekend at White Point Beach Resort this Winter/Spring! She's "testing the waters" to see if there is any interest and asked that I send the info out to all my fibre friends (so I am posting it here and have put in a few of the local groups I belong to on Ravelry) - she sent this to a network of fibre enthusiasts that she knows too, and asked them to all pass it along to their fibre friends ... it could be a wild, woolly weekend!
The retreat is for anyone who enjoys working with fibre - knitters, crocheters, spinners, rug hookers, weavers, any fibre fans! It will take place at White Point Beach Resort, near Liverpool, NS, Canada ... so getting here is a consideration, but would be a fantastic getaway for people from throughout the Maritimes (Liverpool is about an hour and a half from Halifax, Wolfville and Shelburne, and 2 hours from Yarmouth, Truro and Digby).

If you are interested in taking part, or think you'd attend if it were to happen, please put a comment in my comments, and I'll send the info along to my friend (or I will email you her contact info -- just don't want to post her email address on the web for all the loonies to get hold of and spam her!). It sounds really cool, and who knows, if it is a hit this year, maybe it’ll be an annual thing!

Here is the note she sent out, with a bit more info than I gave .....

TO ALL SPINNERS, HOOKERS, KNITTERS, & WEAVERS

All us fibre folk in the Maritimes…

Please let me know if you would be interested in attending a Fibre Arts Retreat at White Point Beach Resort, Nova Scotia…

The tentative dates could be March 27 – 29 (two nights) or April 3 – 5th (two nights).

This is NOT a structured event - - just relax ~ Spin ~ Knit ~ Hook ~ Weave ~ chat and of course eat!!!

White Point has a spa, exercise room, indoor pool, etc.

Please let me know ASAP so we will know whether to pursue this further… We need to let White Point know soon approximately how many people will be attending, so we can discuss with them the dates, facilities, etc. and prices.

Looking forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Sharon Orpin

P.S. so that we don’t miss anyone – please pass this around to your fibre friends!

Sounds good.
Would days only be an option?
I know nights there are expensive.

It would be good if days were an option as well. I doubt I'd have anyone to stay with the kids if Hubs was on the road. Daytimes are fine, but getting someone to watch them all night is tricky.

White Point will be working on gettting us a good rate, depending on how many people come ... I'm sure you could come during the days, but I always find at conferences, and things like this, most of the fun happens after the sun goes down. As far as I know, this year it is an unstructured retreat, so there aren't classes or workshops to take part in. It'll be mostly learning from each other, and enjoying the company of other fibre loving folks -- like a great big ole Knit Night! But I may be wrong, so don't quote me!

I'd like to go ... looking for a pup sitter in case its the weeekend that hubby works

oops ... forgot to add, that if you wanted to, you could book a double room or cottage and share with friends to keep costs lower.

I'd love to go, but am also concerned about the cost. Would there be anyone there willing to teach me how to spin if I brought my wheel?

AS of right now, there are a lot of people interested in going (about 40 ), and I know a lot of them are spinners. I'm sure that at some point over the weekend, you'd be able to learn to spin (spinners, like knitters, like nothing better than to convert-- oops, I mean teach - someone to their hobby! many of Sharon's friends are spinners, and Sharon herself is a Master spinner, and taught me, Marti and Jilly.

Barbara and Dorothy (and Lexa too), if you have any interest at all in going, please send me your email, and I'll send it to Sharon so she can keep you in the loop re: dates, prices, options, etc. My email is tom dot heather AT ns dot sympatico dot ca

(very nifty ... my word verification is logistsz .. like logistics, which is what we are talking about! blogger has a sense of humour)
