Do you like to knit? Do you want knitting friends?

Lately, I have been noticing the glazed look in the eyes of my non-knitter family and friends whenever conversation shifts (which it always does) to what new project I am working on ... I realized that I talk about knitting a bit too much with people who don't "get it" ... it's not that they don't like it, they just don't get what gets me so jazzed up about it, they don't have the passion for it. Which is fine .. they are entitled to want to talk about other things - life, politics, whatever it is that non-knitters like to talk about, BUT I have a need (a really strong, overwhelming need) to share my knitting news with people who really understand it. You know the type I mean ... the people who know why I can't just whip up a sweater for the weekend, or why I stroke the socks lovingly when I give them away and why I grin like an idiot when I see them reappear months later on someones feet, people who understand that staying up until the wee small hours of morning to get past the dull bits of the sock and turn the heel is not as crazy as it sounds, people who want to spend an hour and a half in a yarn store, and know why it is impossible to leave without buying something.

I guess I am saying that I am looking for "my people". I have been wanting to do this for a while - but have been too lazy/hoping someone else would do it ... today I went into our local Superstore and booked the community room for Oct 10th and 17th to see if we can get a "Knit Night" going here in my hometown. I only booked for an hour (7 - 8 p.m., but I am sure if we aren't done by then - assuming anyone comes - they probably won't boot us out) -- if people come, and if they like having a knitting group, we will keep going, and if not -- well, at least I tried.
If you live in Liverpool, or in easy driving distance from here, and are looking to talk about knitting with other knitters, share ideas, help others or get help with techniques, or just get out of the house for an hour or 2 of knitting, chatting and drinking coffee, mark the dates in your calendar, and I will see you there! (this week, the coffee is on me!)

Darn it, my hubby works every Weds night! :(
Humm ... I do have to go to Milton sometime that week to pick up a computer monitor, maybe I'll take the kids and go on Weds? We'll see what kind of mood the boy is in.
Good luck! Hope you have lots of people come!

Me again, wish I had known about that sale. Was there last year with my sister and we each got some Christmas presents.
I'm missing all the good stuff!!

Sounds like fun! I used to go to a knitting group in Mahone Bay but it is just too far to travel on a weekly basis.
And Wednesday nights are free for me. No meetings or bridge on Wed. I am marking it on my calendar! See you then!

I will definitely try to arrange sitters for that night! I always wanted to do something like this, too. None of my really close friends nor any of my family members knit, so I'm always at a loss, too.
