So, you ask ... what about this contest so boldly proclaimed in the title of this post? Here's the dealio ... over the weekend, write a comment in my blog telling me what you are knitting on the long weekend, and provide a link to your blog showing a picture of the knitting item(s) that are your long weekend project(s). If you have no blog ... that's ok -- just tell me about your knitting plans/progress in the comment. I have big plans for what I WANT to do, whether I accomplish all I want is another story! Show & tell me what you get done! Are you going to knit during Canada Day Celebrations? Are you knitting anything patriotic?
My readership is a small group -- so you have a really good chance to win! lol! If you are from the US (or elsewhere) and reading this and are feeling bad that you are not having a 3 day weekend, comment and tell/show me what you knit on the Canadian holiday, or on your holiday (July 4th).
Winners will be selected by an age-old, traditional and highly scientific method ... each person who enters will have their name written on a piece of paper, the slips will be folded and placed on the floor, and whichever one Curly the kitten singles out for playtime ... will win the Grand prize! The "draw" will be held on Thursday, July 5th -- 12 noon in Nova Scotia. Deadline to make your comment is the wee small hours of the morning (before 9 a.m. NS time) on July 5th.
What's in it for you, you ask. Well, this is my first contest ever ... I hope the prize is ok.
The patriotic pack will contain sock yarn (of course) -- 2 x 50 g. balls of Regia Multi Effekt Color in colour 5384 (representing the red and white of our national flag!), and a set of Hide and Sheep stitch markers, along with assorted Canadian paraphernalia (including temporary tattoos to show your Canadian pride! and Maple syrup suckers!)

I'll have to enter this one! I will post on Tuesday probably, cuz I would imagine Sunday/Monday I'll be at the campground. (So my holiday knitting will most likely be socks!)
Enjoy your day off! Too bad it's cloudy, but at least it isn't a scorcher like yesterday. The store is closed on Monday. It's supposed to be my weekend to work. J is back and is doing Friday nights for the summer. However, they changed T's loads around four times on him, so now he won't be home til late Saturday. My nephew got a job at the SS, and my parents are away this weekend, so I may not get to work Saturday. I will have to find out what nephew is working, and if I can do something around that. I'm sure this will go over like a ton of bricks. Oh, well. This would be the first Saturday in months that I may not be able to work.
I will be sitting at home, spinning, working on my all-American Yankees socks for my Sockapalooza pal (boo-hiss Yankees! but I'm doing it for her), maybe knitting some on the Mystery Stole, and being moderately bitter that I wasn't born Canadian. (Shhhh, Homeland Security is kind of tetchy about those sentiments.)
It would be so unfair if I won this, since it's all Canadian stuff - but I've been to Canadia (yes, Canadia - doesn't it sound so exotic that way?) like a whole bunch of times and I really love it there, and I've dated two dyed-in-the-wool Canadians - one I actually dated again six years later - and I pronounce my "ou" words your way, and I love the Barenaked Ladies album "Gordon" and I'm sorry but ketchup with Kraft Dinner is gross but I do totally love Roots and I DO eat the red Smarties last and I memorized all your provinces and their capitals. (There's a story there, but maybe some other time...)
(Oh, and all the funniest comedians and actors seem to come from Canada. You're a very jolly land.)
Ok I am breaking down because I figure the odds are pretty good. I am the world's unluckiest person and if only one other person entered and I had 19 entries, I would still lose!
I am going to be working on the ever popular Lucy Neatby Equilateral Vest in Noro Silk Garden!
OK, I am not Canadian, but I will be knitting. It will be socks and the mystery stole's first clue. Unfortunately I have to work the weekend but I will be off for the 4th, probably knitting socks then too.
I'll be taking the kids to our local Canada Day parade -- and knitting socks at the parade, of course! Currently on the needles is a pair of Wyvern socks in Trekking bamboo yarn. The yarn's a bit rough to work with but I'm hoping it will soften with a wash.
I´m from Norway so no Canadian Day here :) But we are going on vacation today and I will bring my socks knitted in the wonderful Wollmeise yarn (Loopy Ewe is getting in soon). It´s just a pair of plain stockinette but I need something simple on vacation with the kids, SO and friends w/children :) Have a wonderful long weekend!
i am in the us too and will be working this weekend. i am currently trying to knit the "sidewinders" and will try to sneak in a couple of stitches in honor of canada day.
no doubt that i will still be knitting the sidewinders on july 4th.
maple suckers sound absolutely yummy.
happy canada day!
Well I just finished my Jaywalker Sock but I am in no mood to knit the 2nd of the pair so I will be working on finishing Zeeby's bag and possibly starting a new sock!! You Canadians are a good bunch!!
I have other plans for Sunday and Monday that will probably not leave me any time to knit, but my project for today and Saturday is dishcloths to add to my uncle's birthday present. I'm most of the way done the first, and I hope to finish three. I don't have a blog to show pictures, but they'd be pretty boring anyway.
I love contests! Over the Canada Day weekend I will be working on my Sockapalooza socks (the Fluted Banister pattern), and probably a sweater (sized for 1 year) out of Lion Brand Cotton-Ease. The pattern is one of those tear off kind you can get at Michael's. I'll have to have a look and see if it's advertized on the Lion Brand site and if so, post a link. I'm also going to try to work on the scarf I'm attempting for a co-worker who is retiring in August. I'll probably be over at a friend's house on Sunday and knit there, and on the holiday Monday I'll probably be at home knitting.
I can safely say now that my Canada Day knitting will be Sockapalooza Pal socks and maybe my Dad's socks. I'm taking both projects to the campground Sunday morning when we go. I also am getting a little break. Hubby is taking the kids with him to a friend's place, and they're taking them on the ATVs. (Ours and the other guy's both have passenger seats.) So that leaves me alone at the campground to knit, knit, knit on Canada Day!
PS I'll be working tomorrow from 10:30-3 if you get bored and wanna visit.
I'm knitting Adrienne Vittadini's Alexa shell, and I am changing the pattern A LOT because the petite isn't.
And socks... I always have socks going.
:)
puttering away on Monkey socks (practice run on Sockapalooooza) here in NY on July 4! Looks like the fireworks will be rained out so I'll have plenty of time to get them done.
Hey, don't forget me! I want to enter your contest!!
Over the past weekend thru today I have been knitting my little heart away on . . . well, mittens of all things! There is a post from today, the 4th of July on my blog at
http://tinasknitpickinblog.blogspot.com/2007/07/happy-4th-of-july.html
The mittens are in a picture with a chicken. No, I'm not kidding. There is a real live chicken in the pic beside two pairs of red and grey mittens.
